The US only started supplying ATACMS to Ukraine in April

Russia studying captured ATACMS


According to reports, Russian forces have taken possession of and are examining an undamaged guidance system from a long-range US-made ATACMS missile.

A dramatic music-accompanied video featuring a man in military uniform with a balaclava seated at a table in a warehouse inspecting the device was released by the Russian state media source RIA-Novosti.

There were other shelves containing missiles, land mines, and other military equipment behind him.

The unidentified soldier picked up the device to examine it and added, "In theory, we can analyse the work of the missile systems at all stages of the flight trajectory, that is, the base of correction and how much it can be corrected because it flies along a complex ballistic trajectory."

Retired Russian colonel Viktor Litovkin stated to the news portal Lenta.ru that scientists will immediately find any weak points.

He was cited as adding, "We can reconfigure and fine-tune our electronic warfare systems against this missile in addition to reconfiguring our surface-to-air missile systems that are supposed to shoot it [the missile] down."

One of Ukraine's most effective weapons, ATACMS can destroy air bases, cruisers, and command centres with a range of around 200 miles.

Because of concerns that deploying one of its deadliest missile systems would intensify hostilities, the US only began providing ATACMS to Ukraine in April.
